History of the Eglomise Designs Mirror......

We're so proud of our mirrors, all 3 of them. Martha, our founder, developed the first college
mirrors in 1965 and painted scenes of six random colleges to show to retail buyers. The stores
liked her concept, but wanted schools that weren't on her list of six.
In true entrepreneurial fashion Martha said she could paint any college the retailers wanted and
the original six soon became the original twelve. Today our collection has over 2000 original
college scenes and continues to grow.
The tall shape of the Eglomisé mirror has an actual name; the Trumeau mirror. If you visit
American and European museums featuring 18th and 19th Century artifacts you'll find examples
of Trumeau mirrors. Many of these mirrors feature églomisé paintings (painting on the reverse
side of glass). Our company's earliest mirrors back in the 60's were actually painted on the
reverse side of glass (thus our company name) and these original paintings are already making
appearances in antique shops….Who knew!
All of the mirrors we manufacture are proper trumeau mirrors but each has its own special look.
There is hardly a corner of an office or home that can't be brightened with one of our
mirrors... not just because they're beautiful, but so very functional as well.
Send a gift of an Eglomisé mirror. They'll love it.
